In addition, the Leuser forest ecosystem also has an important function for local climate regulation to reduce global warming. It is estimated that about 1.5 billion tons of carbon is produced this forest every day, so it gives a direct impact to suppress the increase in CO2 in the earth's atmosphere.
Leuser Ecosystem Area (KEL) has an area of 2.6 million hectares spread across 13 districts / cities in Aceh from Aceh Tenggara, South Aceh, Subulussalam, to Aceh Singkil. Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Aceh Utara, Gayo Lues, Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, West Aceh, Nagan Raya, Aceh Barat Daya (Abdya). Including, four districts in North Sumatra, namely Langkat, Deli Serdang, Karo, and Dairi. Approximately 4 million people in 17 districts / cities rely on the abundant natural resources of this region.
