Why ia the Clockwise spin to the right
Sunlight is used since 2000 BC to machine hours made in the 17th century as a great way to know the time.
We often hear the term "clockwise" for the round to the right. That's because the clock spins in the right direction. Why is the clock spinning in the right direction? There seems to be no problem even though the clock spins to the left. How did the ancient man decide the direction of clock spinning?
The Sun clock, the world's oldest clock
The origin of this hour's clock direction is from the sundial. The world's oldest clock is the hour to know the time by adjusting to the change in the long position of the shadow of a stick planted on the ground. Used since 2000 BC to machine hours made in the 17th century as a great way to know the time.
On the northern part of the Earth, the Sun rises from the east, passes south, then sets in the west (left), just in the afternoon in the north and the shadow in the afternoon is east (right). From this shadow movement the direction of rotation of machine clock is made to the right.
Not just clocks, other spinning objects are also turning right. For example weighing equipment, thermometer, speedometer in the car and more.
Earth's Southern Sun clock spins the other way round
On the southern part of the Earth like Australia, the Sun rises from the east, passes north, then sets in the west. Unlike the northern part of the Earth, the shadow is on the south side. The shadow movement of the Sun clock is in contrast to the Sun's clock on the northern Earth, which is rotating to the left. So that during the day, the shadow pointed south.
So, why is the clock rotation used instead of the direction on the southern part of Earth? That's because the northern part of Earth is the center of civilization on Earth.
Egyptian civilization, Mesopotamia, Indus and the Yellow River are all present in the northern part of the Earth. Mainland in the world is mostly located in the northern part of the Earth and only slightly in the southern part of the Earth. That is why many civilizations were born on the northern part of Earth. If the mainland is more on the southern part of the Earth, it may be that the clock we use today is the direction the needle is spinning to the left.
