Kehidupan si Leher panjang | Life Of The Long Neck (Bilingual)

Hampir semua suku asli Thailand punya kerajinan tangan berupa tenun.

"Life Of The Long Neck"

When your visit to Thailand, one of the places you should not miss is the village where the Karen tribe lives. This is one of the tribes living in the interior of Thailand as well as Lahu Shi Bala, Palong, Hmong, Kayaw, Akha, and Mien.

Karen became one of the tribe sought by tourists because of its unique tradition.Karen women were required to lengthen their necks using a brass wire pile. In Thailand there are several tourist villages where tourists see the Karen Tribe, one of which is Baan Tong Luang in Chiang Mai.

However, it is a big mistake if you think the Karen tribe is native to Thailand. Karen initially lived in the Tibetan plateau.the tribe then "migrated" to Myanmar, precisely at Karen State which is directly adjacent to Thailand.
The tribe is divided into several sub-ethnicities, among others, Skaw Karen, Pwo Karen, and Bwe Karen. Some of these sub-ethnic groups then moved to Thailand because of a clash with the government.now, about 150,000 Karens live in Thailand while another seven million are still living in Myanmar.

Basically Karen tribe adheres to animistic beliefs. But since Myanmar was colonized by Britain in the 18th century, Christian missionaries expanded their wings. Today about 15 percent of Karen tribes in Myanmar and Thailand are Christians.

Karen's women were wearing a pile of necklaces.they have done this tradition since they were girls. The longer the neck, the more beautiful they are in the eyes of men.

Almost all indigenous tribes of Thailand have handicrafts in the form of weaving. All women hill tribes can weave. They weave cloth for use as clothing, hats, up blankets and socks.

Farming is the main livelihood of hill tribes men.Waterwheels can be found at some point
Traversing each tribe in Baan Tong Luang takes a little time. Moreover, every homeowner invites visitors to take pictures (without paying) even go into his house.
