What is epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain that causes seizures. These seizures can vary from simple and brief to severe and long-lasting. A person may experience just one seizure, or be diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two or more seizures. There is currently no cure for epilepsy, but there are treatments available to reduce or eliminate the occurrence of seizures.
Epilepsy can affect anyone, but it is four times as likely to occur in boys than girls.
