5 epic places in Lisbon - Europe's most beautiful capital

1) Belem Tower 

The city's amazing symbol of the Age of Discovery. Over 500 years old and placed at the Tagus river. Declared a World Heritage monument by Unesco. Climb the steps and you'll have an epic view over the city and the river.  

2)  Monument to the Discoveries 

The Padrao dos Descobriementos is located right next to the Belem Tower. It stands like a ship at the shoreline where many of the most important voyages of exploration began. It was built as a memorial to Infante Dom Henrrique, who later became known as Prince Henry the navigator.   

3) Santa Justa Elevator

That lift is an elevator in the middle of the city center. It's the fastest and most spectacular way to get from the Baixa neighborhood to the Bairro Alto district. Come here early in the morning. It's crowded in the afternoon. 

4) Alfama and a Tram 28 ride 

The Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the Sao Jorge Castle and the river. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning "hot fountains" or "baths". It contains many important historical attractions, as well as an abundance of Fado bars and restaurants. Here you should hop on one of the famous historic trams 28. The tram carries you up and down the Lisbon hills and gets you around the Alfama district.    

5)  Praca do Comercio 

It literally means the Commerce Square is located right between the riverside and the old town. The most eye-catching and decorative object of the square is the statue of Kind Jose I on the back of his horse. Here you will also find a lot of popular cafes and restaurant but also an amazing view to the other side of the river and the  Sanctuary of Christ the King.
