If you don't have your private keys, you don't own your coins. From what I've seen, OpenLedger holds your keys for you which means that they are your bank.

Bitshares is a bit complicated so always look around to see if you have your private keys. The best option is to get a hardware wallet that holds your keys on a separate device.
