EOS Bug Freezes the Blockchain for Hours Today, 2 Days After Launch

in #eos7 years ago

EOS is facing some negative press this Saturday, as all transactions were frozen when the blockchain came to a halt for an unknown reason at 9:56am UTC (5:56am EST).

The EOS Authority twitter account let everyone know of the issue at 6:55am EST, and that block producers were on a call to identify and resolve the issue:

Four hours after the first post (9:49 EST), they said Block One had found the issue and fixed it. All servers were updating nodes and the chain would restart. No confirmed transactions would be lost.

Block One found the issue at 13:02 UTC (9:02 EST):

"Root cause was due to how deferred transactions were handled. Fix is being released shortly by BlockOne."

A nodeos fix was made, with the chain being replayed from the last verified block 1027597. The EOS mainnet is now producing blocks again.

There was a lot of complaints in the cryptosphere about EOS not getting started up fast enough after it's initial launch, as people had a hard time staking their EOS tokens to block producers. There was a requirement for 15% of the all EOS tokens to be staked through voting and applied to block producers in order for the mainnet to launch. It took a few days for that to happen. On June 14th, enough block producers received votes for the blockchain to go live.

There was another issues about bugs being found, days before the official launch to get votes staked at the end of may. Guido Vranken was awarded $120,000 as an EOS bug bounty that Block One set. Each bug netted $10,000, and it took him about a week. But there are still bugs, making the new blockchain seem quite vulnerable.

With this recent issue, it's another hickup in the launch of EOS. Debugging the blockchain bug through a conference call has critics saying this is showing how EOS isn't decentralized enough. Hopefully everything is in tip-top shape, but there may be more bugs to come.

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.

#notgood lol Is the EOS blockchain running as fast as it was supposed to?

Sounds like NEO, very centralzied

Of course it centralized - its part of the design of the protocol!

Considering the magnitude of whole thing. I would say lot of bugs are yet to be found.

잘 읽고 갑니다.

저도 좀 ....좋은 정보 부탁드려요^^..

Sounds crazy, I know what it’s like to have systems down and people freaking out on a smaller scale (<200) I couldn’t imagine a blockchain!

Yes, EOS project showcasing great opportunities but it's not free from issues and the mysterious issues everyday surrounding EOS and these type of issues can give panic moment because usually we don't expect it.

And everyone was waiting for the Mainnet and that time also it got delayed and one or other issues arise. Let's hope that soon everything will be fine.

Thanks for sharing this post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

Not is gold, all that shines.

One thing i dont like about EOS is that 100 people are holding 70% of all Eos coins.
It makes it centralized which defeats the whole purpose.

Steem had 40 people holding over 90% of the coins for the first year...

It is a great platform that is the only problem i can think about.
