Vote your EOS in 5 minutes
Vote your EOS in five minutes!
Voting your EOS is simple using the Greymass voting tool. Most people report that it takes them between 5 and 7 minutes.
Maybe you own EOS tokens along with a lot of other cryptocurrency and are just learning about the other dimensions of EOS: its governance, its goals, its global community. If you are an EOS token-holder who is ready to explore, welcome! Voting is a great place to start and when you use the Greymass eos-voter app, you won't be exposing your private key.
In addition to voting, consider joining our telegram channel. We're there pretty much 24/7 so if you have any questions about technology or governance or anything at all, why not just ask a block producer directly? We can't wait to hear from you!

Okay! As promised, here's how you can vote in around 5 minutes. You can watch this detailed video or skip it and just follow the instructions. In all honesty, voting is quicker than watching the video.
1- Download and install the Greymass eos-voter app.
No further instructions here! Choose your OS and go for it!

2- Add an API endpoint to connect to the EOS.IO network.
Greymass will give you a link to some options, but we suggest using ours:
https://api1.eosdublin.io
https://api2.eosdublin.io
3- Add your private key.
Ok. Handling your private key is always a little scary. But we like the Greymass app because it stands alone on your desktop, and you aren't entering it in a browser. We like to quit our web browser completely while working with the app.
4- Add your account name.
Your public EOS wallet address has a 14 character alphanumeric account name. It's OK if you don't know it. The Greymass tool will give you a little pop-up window so you can find it using your public key.
5- Create a local password.
This part is optional. Do you want the app to encrypt and store your private key for you so it's there the next time you use it, or do you want to re-enter it every time you want to use it? We prefer to have a local password since we use the Greymass tool as a wallet as well as for voting.
6- Vote!
Select producers you want to vote for and click submit to blockchain! That's all there is to it!
Notes:
How to learn about Block Producers
You can choose 30 block producers to vote for. It can be challenging to familiarize yourself with all of the candidates if you are just learning about the broader EOS Community. We recommend the EOS Network Monitor, where you can click on informational websites for every block producer.
http://eosnetworkmonitor.io/
BP websites are listed in the Greymass tool as well, but we prefer to use it with our internet browsers closed.
How to vote for backup BPs.
If you have 1000 EOS or less consider casting your vote for backup BPs. The top 21 active block producers are in place, and the vote as it currently stands has a wide disparity between active and backup BPs. If you hold 1000 EOS or less, you probably won't be able to change the order of the active block producers at all, but you might be able to add another backup block producer! A backup BP must have at least .5% of the vote to become active, and currently we don't even have half of the backup BPs we need. Anyway, pay special attention to BPs that have .4%, because your vote could move them into a paid backup BP position!
active / top 21
active / backup bp
On the Greymass tool, a little green symbol means they are an active block producer, a yellow symbol means they hold a paid backup position. If there is no symbol it means they are essentially doing the job of backup BP but not being rewarded.
