Should I Buy Eos Tokens

I'm very interested in eos especially after finding out Dan Larrimer is part of it. My question is what is the token for.

Its not being used to fund the development of eos. So whats the money for. I want to invest because Im sure eos will dethrone etherium but I dont k ow what I'd be buying if I buy the eos token.
