EOS for US buyers

So how many of you are US or Chinese token holders. I purchased my EOS tokens from EOS.IO, registered my wallet all while using a VPN. I do not see how when the snapshot is taken in June that they can tell that my wallet is held by someone in the US. It is my opinion that the whole US and Chinese restriction is just smoke and mirrors to keep regulators at bay. So am I completely wrong here???
