We the EOS holders.... might finally get a constitution
Yesterday was like a major last minute blow, when Dan suddenly withdrew the default constitution from github, and we were left with a blockchain possibly to launch without a constitution. How mediocre a blockchain would that had given us for the launch tomorrow?
There were lots of different suggestions, for one to launch with a minimal viable constitution

Whereas this would have been better than nothing, it would have lacked most things, that made this project so special.
In the course Dan suggested a radical approach (maybe not in all earnest) for the launch:
Of course this is the long term vision of EOS, and just brilliant approach, but certainly too much for an infratsructure launch. Finally news emerged from a group i never heard of:
EOS General Assembly - EOSGA - a group of prominent community members from every role in the ecosystem.
A few names have been dropped, but it's not really clear to me who that is. Anyhow, the outcome is resonable, it is a constitution generally based on the last draft by Thomas Cox and Dan.

Nevertheless this constitution is seen as preliminary and to be voted upon within 90 days. Beyond that, Dan called for a convent still in 2018:
So although unexpected, b1 officials dropping the constitution didn't lead to chaos, but the community managed to pick up and provide a solution. This is really amazing and reassuring!
Convention sounds like a great idea to work out the final details.
Absolutely, i wonder how this will be structured (3 days conclave with lots of booze ;-) and what the role of the general assembly will be, and what happens to EOSReal and EOS Founndation who pushed for similar things.
I am glad it is finally over. Yesterday was a nightmare for sure.
It was disharmony in the gov channel that led to the governance documents being pulled from the github repository IMO. Maybe they always intended to do it but it happened very soon after heated debates with Dan suggesting as much. I was very worried that we would have no or a minimal constitution! I think Dan coming back in later on defending the reference constitution - especially Article 1 - is what turned the tide. I hadn't heard of EOSGA before either. It would have been hard to proceed with a minimal constitution after Dan's impassioned defence of it. Well done to them for changing course. When the chain is launched and we can vote on such things hopefully it will get easier!

Events of the last two days certainly offer a good base for behavioural studies. My impression is, that the eosgov member didnt anticipate what effects their controversy would have, especially since Thomas Cox presented the las consitution draft he had gone over with Dan as the default constitution, so i might have misread, but the message was, this is whats going to be in the launch constitution. Fully agree, that a minimal viable constitution would have been very weak and it would have become very hard to implement a full constitution, that would have come near to the goals of the original one.
Astonishingly the General Assembly started operations 72h ago, they said, so it seems, that they had formed already before Dan dropping the doc, so maybe there already was a Plan B.... just speculating of course.
We have alot to go throught, launch is just the start. Take a breather and lets enjoy the ride!
