EOSTalk Community

Each week we have our EOSTalk Live event with @OfficialFuzzy where we discuss the future of blockchain technology as it relates to the development of EOSIO. From time to time we will have special guests join us to share their insights with us as well.

On this week's EOStalk Live (January 9th) the focus was on community involvement, current contests, and meetups. @SteemPowerPics gave a summary of the current contests that are happening, and how they help the entire community, he also gave us a glimpse of an EOSTalk Community Meetup presentation. A demonstration on how to use Eventbrite to organize events was also included, presented by @ByCompoundFilms.

Whaleshare's Curation Show

Supporting Worthy Causes on Steemit

As many of you know, we in the BeyondBitcoin and Whaleshares Communities devote all our time and resources to finding ways to support new users (minnows), support community initiatives, and development teams working to build applications that will help create stronger cross-chain interactions that benefit us all.

Every week over the last 7 months the combined efforts of our community leaders has allowed us to give hundreds of thousands of dollars in support via our cross-chain tokens, weekly hangouts (EOSTalk and Bitshares), outreach programs, and live curation/post promotion events on our Discords. We do this because we want to share the growth and prosperity opportunity platforms like Steemit provide us. We do this because we believe the shared community experience, and the act of giving and supporting others, enriches us all more than services that provide no such incentive.

As many of you know, it has been an uphill battle for our community from the beginning. Very few "whales" understood the value of giving as a way to receive, most are focused on taking as the only way to receive. We are thankful for the early support and SP delegation that helped get the Whaleshares community started. We were also disheartened when the incentive structures made steem more of a "gamble for promotion" ecosystem than a watering hole for all in the world's ocean creatures to build and earn value. But still, we thrive on like a honey badger - growing back the value of the Whaleshares token through organic growth.

In recent months, with the surge in STEEM and SBD price, we have noticed a change in behavior here on Steemit. Those with large vested SP and/or large delegations have turned to creating limited content posts several times a day and self-upvoting them to the max to pull quick profits from the rewards pool with no thought or giving back to the community at large.

We have never asked for special favors, or special treatment, or investments from anyone - all we ever ask is for those who believe in our community or use it's services to give support by simply upvoting these posts that always have your best interest at heart.

YES, I usually upvote our community posts, but consider the reason why. It's not for greed or self-gain. These posts generally give more than they earn and everything that is earned on @OfficialFuzzy is invested back in as SP, which is then used to support the Whaleshares token, which in-turn is used to support hundreds of other Steemians every week. Not even asking for a witness or delegation.

For everything our communities do to support others on Steemit, we still have a majorly unbalanced return in support. If I wasn't pledging the full support of my personal account to these projects and posts we wouldn't be able to help as many people as we do. To further illustrate this fact, I have decided to go 1 FULL WEEK without upvoting any of my posts. I hope this will show the Steemit community at large how little support we truly have for all the things we do for others. Posts with over 200 views, but only 50 upvotes. Praise in the comments, and yet no upvote to back up those claims of support.

Despite everything, we are not stopping, we are not giving up. I am very proud of those who do continue to support us, those who faithfully upvote our initiatives, and continue to help others in our weekly community events. You know who you are, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Let's rally the community to become better engaged in supporting those who support so many others. It's not that hard. And far better than just self upvoting videos of people playing video games or taking pictures at the zoo for $1000. ;)

Remember empowering those who empower others...is what builds real wealth.
