My new bamboo computer mouse. / Meine neue Bambus-Computermaus.

Those who have been following my blog for a while already may know that I regard the plastic pollution of our environment as one of the biggest problems we humans have to face nowadays. Some time ago I already wrote two articles about plastic degrading organisms as a possible future support in the fight against the garbage. By the way, it is by no means the case that countries such as Germany or other economically leading nations are as exemplary as they pretend to be with regard to waste prevention and disposal. As an example the "Tagesspiegel" awarded Germany the not very flattering title of the (packaging)"garbage world champion".
Ultimately, however, science or politics alone can not solve the plastic problem, only humanity as a whole. It is necessary that every single individual is careful to produce less garbage, to dispose of it appropriately and to try avoiding unnecessary packaging materials.
When, recently, my last computer mouse bit the dust, I acted according to this motto and ordered a wireless optical mouse, whose shell instead of using plastics was made almost entirely from bamboo. Bamboo is durable, flexible, light and regrows quickly again. The mouse itself works so far perfectly and is comfortable to use, even if I have determined that it is not particularly well suited for computer games in which it depends on maximum speed, or lightning chess, since there are faster reacting computer mouses on the market.
I am aware of the fact that purchasing such a mouse is only a very small contribution to plastic reduction, but if more and more people in many different areas of life pay attention to use less plastic, the sum of these numerous small contributions to environmental protection is not to be underestimated.

Diejenigen, die schon länger meine Artikel hier verfolgen, wissen sicherlich, dass ich die Plastikverschmutzung unserer Umwelt als eines der größten Menschheitsprobleme ansehe. So schrieb ich vor längerer Zeit zwei Artikel über Plastik zersetzende Organismen als mögliche zukünftige Unterstützung im Kampf gegen die Vermüllung (für Interessierte verlinke ich sie nochmals hier und hier).
Übrigens ist es keineswegs so, dass Länder wie Deutschland oder andere Industrienationen bezüglich Müllvermeidung und -entsorgung so vorbildlich sind, wie sie sich gerne selbst darstellen. So verlieh z. B. der "Tagesspiegel" Deutschland den wenig schmeichelhaften Titel des (Verpackungs-)"Müll-Weltmeister"s.
Letztlich können aber nicht Wissenschaft oder Politik allein das Plastikproblem lösen, sondern nur die Menschheit als Ganzes, indem jeder Einzelne darauf achtet, weniger Müll zu produzieren, ihn sachgerecht zu entsorgen und möglichst auf unnötige Verpackungsmaterialien zu verzichten.
Als kürzlich meine letzte Computermaus den Geist aufgab, handelte ich gemäß dieser Devise und bestellte eine Funkmaus, deren Äußeres statt aus Kunststoffen fast komplett aus Bambus hergestellt wurde. Bambus ist haltbar, flexibel, leicht und wächst vor allem schnell wieder nach. Die Maus selbst funktioniert bisher einwandfrei und ist komfortabel zu bedienen, auch wenn ich festgestellt habe, dass sie für Computerspiele, bei denen es auf maximale Geschwindigkeit ankommt, oder Blitzschach, nicht besonders gut geeignet ist, da es doch noch deutlich schneller reagierende Mäuse gibt.
Mir ist bewusst, durch den Kauf einer solchen Maus nur einen relativ kleinen Beitrag zur Plastikreduktion zu leisten, aber wenn möglichst viele Menschen in vielen verschiedenen Lebensbereichen darauf achten, mit weniger Plastik auszukommen, ist die Summe dieser zahlreichen kleinen Beiträge zum Umweltschutz nicht zu unterschätzen.
