Is Trump CORRECT? Says, "U.S. pulling from Paris Agreement won't affect environment..."

in #environment7 years ago (edited)

As you've probably heard, Trump has pulled the U.S. from the Paris Agreement.
If you are not familiar with what the Paris Agreement is, it is: The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.

People are PISSED that Trump has pulled the U.S. out of this agreement with so many other nations represented. WHY?

Are they afraid this shows that America is not concerned about the environment and they want to save face?
Are they afraid that this will allow spending to contribute to harming the environment?
Are they concerned there will not be limitations placed on corporations contributing to harming the environment?

Here is MY question: WHO is "in charge" of the flow of money?
ANSWER: YOU ARE.

Trump says "this will not affect the environment." You know what? He might be right. Because YOU (where you direct your spending and how YOU live YOUR life) is what affects the environment.

We can STILL be a part of the Paris Agreement by making promises to ourselves that we change HOW we live.

Does your money contribute to organizations/companies that harm the Earth? Are you aware?
Do you recycle?
Does YOUR LIFESTYLE reflect what you are standing for/against?

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE.
Don't freak out. BE the solution. LIVE the solution. CONTRIBUTE to the solutions.

****Quick education:
If you're curious: The AIM of the Paris Agreement is this:

"(a) Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change;
(b) Increasing the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production;
(c) Making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development."
Countries furthermore aim to reach "global peaking of greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible". The agreement has been described as an incentive for and driver of fossil fuel divestment.[12][13]

The Paris Agreement is the world's first comprehensive climate agreement.

WE ARE THE WORLD
NOT just ONE man.

One problem with the Paris agreement is that it doesn't really have any teeth. It's mostly bark and not much bite.
It is, however, a start to serious conversation about climate change mitigation.
