Elon Musk Changes Twitter Name To "Treelon" For Tree-Planting Campaign

When I saw this new name "Treelon" on my Twitter feed, I wondered who it was and when I had followed this person. Then I looked at the account name and it said @elonmusk. At first, I thought it was another one of the funny things he does online from time to time.

Then I found out that he had changed his Twitter name to support a new tree-planting campaign that has been gaining momentum online in recent weeks. The subtle creativity is awesome. Elon to Treelon. LOL.

That's not all he did though. He donated a whopping $1 million to the campaign to plant 1 million trees. The end goal for the #teamtree campaign is to plant 20 million trees.

The campaign was started by the YouTuber, Jimmy Donaldson, famously known by his Youtube handle, 'MrBeast'. His subscribers had challenged him to plant 20 million trees to celebrate his milestone of reaching 20 million subscribers on YouTube.

Donaldson collaborated with the Arbor Day Foundation and have since planted more than 10 million trees. This goes to show how an internet meme can have real-world consequences. In this case, it was a really good one.

The campaign intends to plant trees on every continent in the world, except for Antarctica. They will be planting trees that are native to their region. This truly is a global campaign and something that should be done on an even larger scale.

If we are to have any positive impact on our degrading environment whatsoever, planting trees has to be the number one way to do it. I hope that world governments will soon realise this and actually do something about it. The responsibility lies equally on the individual citizens as well.

As for the campaign, Elon Musk is the number two donor with the one million dollars, with Tobi Lutke, the Canadian billionaire, just taking the lead a few hours ago from the time of writing this. Some other prominent figures that have donated to the campaign are Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
