From ocean debris to backyard furniture - Marine Conservation News
With ghost nets causing such damage to our ocean ecosystems, Arden Companies of Bingham Farms, Mich.'s (outdoor fabrics company) EverTru Fabrics division's OceanTex Fabric collection has created a solution to help solve the issue with their "OceanTex Olefin, made 100 percent from recovered fishing net waste collected from oceans and beaches around the world, and OceanTex Polyester, made 100 percent from recovered plastic bottle waste collected from oceans and beaches".
Ghost nets may make up to 30% to 50% of all plastic in the ocean.
46% of the Pacific Garbage Patch is made up of discarded fishing nets
After several hundreds years these nets will decompose into microplastics that will continue to cause damage to ocean ecosystems
