A day at Black Mesa Stepping Back in time

in #environment7 years ago (edited)

Recently I spent a week in an incredible place far from the convenience of the modern world.
In a amazing place called Black Mesa located in The Navajo Nation. This experience taught me a lot about myself and about the way of life for some of the people living in a world within a world. I wrote this prose which I have formatted to read as a poem. I hope that you will enjoy my love for this amazing place. I was unable to stay out there longer due to health reasons although feel extremely blessed that I had the experience. I may have used words of Edward Abbey's into this piece only with the upmost respect and love for his work. I am deeply grateful for to the family that allowed me to stay in their home and experience their beautiful lifestyle.

Sitting quietly
A top the Mesa
The Wind surrounded me in its embrace
The Sun was gentle
In the Winter Crisp Air
Horses Neighed in the distance
The “kids” bleating for their mothers
Broke the afternoon silence
White puffs munched on grass way off in the distance
The sand dunes sitting low in the valley
With the mountains Rising above them in gracefully ascendance
Afternoon shadows casting long into the valleys
Long stretches of barely touched Wilderness
A term that makes blood boil
There is nothing wild about this Earth
Our need to tame overwhelming
To simply live from the abundance of the Earth
Watching countless unfiltered stars
Washed in the power of untold universes.
In the quietness of crackling fires
Feeling the hum of the land.
Pulsing in Grounded joy
The scent of the Rain
Cleansing the desert
Lightly falling quickly flashing by
Then gone again
I felt the soft nose of a puppy nudge me
In his desire for my presence
I had had wandered so deeply into the land feeling its embrace
In my entire Being
Feeling the deepest sense of wonder and gratitude
