WE ARE NIGERIANS…WE HAVE THE NIGERIAN-NESS, LETS BE ONE!

From the laws of creation till date, love has always been the supreme thing of all; but much intolerance is still manifesting or existing within us. There are many Nigerian adherents of Christianity and Islam who are intolerant of one another. Particularly, this intolerant keeps on manifesting in the northern and middle belt regions of the country. It hurts to see that whenever a religious riot breaks out, both the rioting Muslims and Christians always spontaneously throw their Nigerianess (hospitality, love, peace and unity) into the dustbin, the next thing you see is bloodbath, and property destruction and looting. Yet both Christianity and Islamic faith are against wishful murder and man slaughter. These recurring faithless actions have not been helping the prospect of the much needed unity among the ethnic groups of Nigeria. A young Igbo boy of about 26/27 years of age was beaten to death right before my very eyes in Oshodi, Nigeria because he confronted a Yoruba boy who intentionally picked his phone out of his pocket; the poor Igbo boy was unfortunate to have been surrounded by mostly Yorubas and had no opportunity to do otherwise in his situation, these heartless boys dealt with him until he gave up, in less than 25mins before the police emerged the whole neighborhood was like a no man’s land; left alone with just the dead body in the middle of the road. And I ask; where is this love that supersedes all human nature? What is the use of tribalism and fighting? When we all belong to same, the creator of the universe; and we all have also been ordered by the Almighty, both in the Bible and in the Quran, that we must not pinch a single hair out of that which He has made in his own image and likeness, doesn’t it sulk to you seeing your own brother, sister, father or mother, murdered in cold blood? And to what do all these boil down to, power, authorities, women and so on.

In my curiosity of finding a lasting solution to this endless brutality, hatred and evil thoughts we carry in our hearts and the reasons why we give in to fighting and manslaughter, just then I realized that we humans do not have an atom of love for other human kinds around us probably because we are not of the same class. Still on that, am very sure that we all can testify to the fact that whenever a riot of any kind sets in, the ones that start the fight are usually never the ones that ends the fight, limiting other people because of their disabilities (illiteracy). If you think you have that kind of power or authority to start and end war at your own time, why not convert that same ability to facilitating the uncompleted projects that you have also commissioned the same time without nourishing them. Rioting is more complicated than the Nigeria 7point Agenda; yet the easiest to start and be completed. Some riot you erupt, start and end within two to four months but how any major roads have been commissioned and completed in one year? Sometimes I wonder if we really do have plans for the generations yet unborn; it’s so sad, how we allow people whose lives are almost over dictate for us; they camp their families and loved ones outside the country for security purpose and make you their weapon of war, you shoot when they ask you to and die when they want you to. Why living in bondage and limiting your life span when there is enough air to go around? Let’s live together as one in peace and unity.
