A healthy society is built around expectations of fair exchange.

When you expect to get something for nothing, you are taking from the group without putting anything back in and without regard for whether this is good for the group or not. You demand something for yourself without any regard for the group, which is plain old selfish greed.

It is interesting to me that the group that believes itself to be better for society (Progressives) is the same group that encourages the stifling of fair exchange in favor of forced redistribution, which is toxic to healthy society. So in the name of making society better they actually poison it.

Going even deeper, the reason that Progressives force redistribution instead of fair exchange is that they think that people are basically selfish, and left to their own devices would cold heartedly leave each other to die in the streets. But meanwhile, the "heartless" Conservatives actually believe in the goodness of humans, and that if left to their own devices, believe that more often than not humans will choose to voluntarily take care of each other.

Thus the group that is supposedly the caring, nurturing, loving group is the one that believes that most humans are evil, while the group that is the uncaring, callous, heartless group is the one that believes in the fundamental goodness of humanity.

And thus the group that is considered cold and callous (Conservatives) is the group that keeps the long term health of society as their primary priority based around fundamental optimism about humanity, and for this they are labeled selfish and heartless. And meanwhile, the group that tries to enforce universal selfish behavior without regard to long term group health, built around a fundamentally pessimistic perspective on humanity, is the group that labels itself as caring and good for society.

Funny how reality is often the opposite of labels.
