About Orson Scott Card
Orson Scott Card (born August 24, 1951) is an American novelist, critic, public speaker, essayist, and columnist.
He writes in several genres but is known best for science fiction.
His novel Ender's Game (1985) and its sequel Speaker for the Dead (1986) both won Hugo[2][3] and Nebula Awards, making Card the only author to win both science fiction's top U.S. prizes in consecutive years.
A feature film adaptation of Ender's Game, which Card co-produced, was released in 2013.
"Ender's Shadow" - The Book
Ender's Shadow (1999) is a parallel science fiction novel by the American author Orson Scott Card, taking place at the same time as the novel Ender's Game and depicting some of the same events from the point of view of Bean, a supporting character in the original novel.
It was originally to be titled Urchin, but it was retitled Ender's Shadow prior to release.
Ender's Shadow was shortlisted for a Locus Award in 2000.

There were many failed attempts to bring "Ender's Game" to the silver screen.
Either the producers wanted to alter the original story too much, or the mere writing of the script strictly from one point of view resulted in one lame scripts after another.
Besides, at no time in Hollywood history was there more than two or three great >12 y/o actors at one time in the industry.
"Ender's Game" would require a dozen or more!
Then serendipity happened, not only did a group of young actors arrive on the scene at once, a couple of new producer/consultants suggested to fix the script problem by combining the two books ("Ender's Game" and "ender's Shadow").
The result was a brilliant multi-point of view story that was both visually stunning and emotionally captivating.
In spite of myself, I LOVED THIS BOOK!
I read at least one book a week.
A couple days ago, I began reading "Ender's Shadow"; mainly because I really enjoyed reading "Ender's Game" and watching the movie.
But I was skeptical.
"Even if the story was told from a different character's point of view, how could the telling of the same story be anywhere near as good as the original; especially when the original was 'Ender's Game'"?, I thought.
But after I finished reading "Ender's Shadow" yesterday, I must confess:
I absolutely loved reading "Ender's Shadow" - even more than "Ender's Game"!
And if you liked "Ender's Game" (the book or the movie), I highly recommend that you read "Ender's Shadow".

Believing that school was too boring, he dropped out of High School early; only to earn an AA, BS and MBA in less than 4 years much later in life – while working full-time as a Navy/Marine Corps Medic.
In spite of a fear of heights and deep water, he performed high altitude, free-fall parachute jumps and hazardous diving ops in deep, open ocean water.

I haven't read his SciFi books, but I follow Orson Scott Card on Quora and he seems like quite an interesting person. My husband and kids love his SciFi stuff.
I had actually been reading his "Women of Gensis" series, fictionalized accounts of women from the Bible at the same time that my husband was reading some of his SciFi and we suddenly realized that we were reading two VERY different series by the same guy!
He's prolific AND very controversial.

Oh, definitely. I hadn't even heard of the controversial stuff until I got more involved in Quora and saw people questioning him about some of the... touchy stuff.
I watched the movie, no wonder I felt the name sounded a bit familiar! Didn't know about Ender's shadow though, thanks for such an interesting recommendation, @jaichai :)

@insideoutlet and I loved both series of books and have gone through them all if you haven't read the rest of enders story you really should "speaker for the dead" and "children of the mind" are amazing .
Still to this day bean is our favorite character shadow of the hegemon and shadow puppets flesh earth out so much and the rest of the battle school characters

I remember reading "Ender's Game" a million years ago. It was a great book. I also remember reading something about Orson Scott Card holding a lot of view points that I can't possibly bring myself to support. That creates an interesting dichotomy in that I want to read the next book, but I also don't want to give money to the author. Maybe I'll find "Ender's Shadow" in a free pile somewhere. :-D
