Volcan Island Omotepe, Nicaragua ( English )

The island of Omotepe is the largest volcanic island on a freshwater lake. There are about 30,000 people living on this island. The volcano Concepción is the most active volcano in Nicaragua. (The last eruption was in 2010!)

We planned a weekend trip to the volcanic island. Actually we wanted to take the car ferry to the island, fortunately the ferry was fully booked and we took the passenger ship. (Why we were happy about it afterwards, you are able to see below...)
The crossing took us about 70 minutes and I honestly felt like on a tugboat: D It was completely overcrowded and the employees closed the door from the outside to so we were locked up.

Lake Nicaragua is the third largest lake in Latin America and even bull sharks live there. We came closer to the island and the view was breathtaking....

The sunset on the island was beautiful and it had a stretch of beach where you could walk very far into the lake.

And now to the ferry...

As you can see, there are 3 cars in total and there is no room for a thumb between the cars:D Since we had a rental car anyway, we were glad that we didn't have to squeeze our car into this ferry.
