Where does coconut water come from?

Coconut juice or coconut water is the liquid that is naturally found in young coconut. But how does it get there?

Like many other plant species, the coconut tree uses its fruits as a reservoir of water.
This water is absorbed by the root system of the tree and transported by capillarity to the coconut. The main difference is in the fact that, for most fruits, it is necessary to tighten them to extract the water and, in the case of edible fruits, this is how the fruit juice is obtained.

Coconut water, then, is nothing more than "coconut juice".
At the beginning of its growth, when the fruit is green, the coconut contains on average 50 cl of a little sweet juice. As time passes and it grows, the water disappears for the benefit of the coconut meat.

But this reserve of fresh water is essential for the survival of the species of coconut trees.
In fact, the coconut produces very little fruit in a year (between 25 and 75 coconuts). Your seed must then be a kind of "super seed". It must be able to spread over long distances, to resist dangerous conditions and to germinate where its journey has ended, sometimes after having spent many months in the open sea.

The water contained within the coconut serves as a reservoir of fresh water for the coconut seed. This develops inside the coconut with a capillary network that will serve as the basis for your future root system.
