The Sistine Chapel - Wonder of the Renaissance #7
One of the most complex paintings in the history of art.
Built by order of Pope Sixtus IV - hence his name - between the years 1473 and 1481 in the Vatican, by the artist Giovannino de 'Dolci.
In 1483, Pope Julius II, grandson of Sixtus IV, not satisfied by the starry sky that decorated the vault, called the young Michelangelo. The chosen theme, with Neoplatonic interpretation, is the history of the world and of humanity before the coming of Christ.
Famous all over the world for being the official headquarters of the Conclave, that is, the hall in which the cardinals meet to elect the new Pope.
Thirty years later, Pope Clement VII called Michelangelo again, this time to commission him to carry out the Final Judgment, a fresco mural to decorate the apse of the Sistine Chapel.
