Introduction to Textile Engineering - General Procedure of Garments Manufacturing
Textile Engineering is the study of techniques and methods to manufacture yarns, fabrics, and garments through the processes of yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, textile processing and eventually the garments manufacturing. Technique or science which is used to manufacture the textile goods in a proper way is called Textile Engineering.
Textile is defined as any fiber having flexibility, fineness, tensile strength, minimum length of 10 mm and proper orientation. Banana is also a fiber but it is not a textile fiber because it lacks above mentioned properties.
From above points it is clear that in Textile Engineering we study different procedures to manufacture our final product i.e garments. General procedure of Textile Engineering is as follows:
First of all raw material (Cotton, Flax, Silk, Woo) is taken and cleaned by Ginning process to convert it into clean fibers. Then these fibers are converted into fine yarns. These yarn are then interlaced on Looms to convert them into fabrics and then this fabric is processed with wet treatments to make it able to be wear. After processing, final fabric is transferred to garments manufacturing plant where designing of garments and their sewing takes place. After that final garment is packed and dispatched to its customer.
