Curation Vs Author Rewards
Ok... I have been collecting data for the last 30 days... I did do 1 Bot during that timeframe for 1.0 increase in SP. This data is SP only! In short , you will see I went several days of no Author & no Curation... Well what is the results? All zeros for both Author & Curation Rewards... I had a few days where the curation actually was better than the Author amounts... My intention was to not use a bot to skew the results. I am sharing the actual data with you! My total for Author Rewards was actually better... but, drop 1.00 from the total and it is pretty close. It is interesting to see how important it is to do both... even a bad post can result in better than expected returns. A simple picture can sometimes do better than a hard written finely crafted post. You might even try a #dtubesnap or better yet a #dtubesnapplus then check your results for that post. The bottom line is this... no engagement no results!!
I wanted to do 30 days of information to prove a point.... it cost me... as it flattened out everything! No increase in followers as a result. Which in turns means no rank advancing! In fact I lost 1 or 2 followers as well… during this time I also purchased delegation! So you have to do more than buy your way to success!
So the moral of the story is to grow you have to take action! Taking action means engaging with other people... Do you want a bunch of zero's like I have?
What do you think @jongolson? Does this sum it all up... LOL

Great post and an extraordinary experiment, Paul. It shows me to even engage more in the next weeks.
That was my point to this whole process... nothing extreme... just subtle experimentation. No big numbers as you can tell... I just wanted the average newbie to see what happens when they do nothing and the affects. Plus the experienced person to not forget what is necessary. Did affect my growth... well yes it did. I was at a much higher pass than I am now... but, it show me as well I have to step it up! Thank you for your comment @ikarus56... Norbert!
Being new around here still trying to wrap my head around how things work
This helps thx

My pleasure... the key is simply engagement... whether it be a blog post, posting a picture, making a comment... it's not like you have to do a lot... but, if you sit on the sideline and just watch... well the result is nothing!
I appreciate this perspective... (and, I love charts, tables and graphs... lol)

Thank you... the bottom line is to engage engage engage... oh did I say engage? LOL

Location, location, location...?

yes... actually anything we do is engagement! :)
appreciate the support and kind words man. very cool and i’m humbled by it.
the truth is pretty visible from this post. get engaging!!!
and keep engaging. no matter what. if we wanna claim to be a better option than facebook and others, it begins and ends with engagement.

My pleasure @jongolson... it is team work to build and grow on the Blockchain... you can't do it all alone!
The word of of the day "ENGAGE" :)
Interesting experiment Paul! Of course you need to take action. Here's the fact maybe not enough people know. There is a transfer of influence on Steem from inactive people to active people. The worth of the account of inactive people slowly diminishes over time with Steem inflation, while active people make up for it by earning more rewards.
I sure did not know this:
"for curation only your own stake is taken into account."
Are you sure? What happens to the rest of the curation reward?
Hmm, I did more digging and I'm not sure about this any more. One thing I'm sure of now is that only your own stake counts for witness voting. I'll edit that comment to remove the part I'm no longer sure about, to not confuse anyone else.

Oh yay I knew that part... that is part of what was happening to my account as it has flattened out... what is obvious to most is no action no result... but, what kinds of action can help the result is interesting... you can take action in so many ways! It is like building momentum... but, when you stall or stop you lose that momentum!
Nice, I like your comparison with momentum. And it's accurate too, since we have a 7 days payout period. :)

Exactly the point... 7 days to build up and then during those 7 days you are building on the next 7 days. Hence momentum... :)
I have not done such a formal analysis, but from my 1.5 years here I have this result:
In order to have success, I need to
If I fall down on any one of those tasks, I can see the negative result.
You have that correct! The less you post or comment or engage the lower the results you will have! No matter what the level you are at currently... you have to engage to grow! Thank you for your comment... great list of action items! :)
