How do I become better at controlling emotions ?
Understand that controlling emotions is not something you can do overnight. It requires consistent efforts.
To control your emotions you need to understand and monitor your own and other people's emotions. You then need to use this emotional information to guide your thinking and behavior.
UNDERSTAND YOUR EMOTIONS
- Identify how are you feeling
- Go to the root cause of that- what or who triggered that feeling?
SELF MANAGEMENT
- Develop internal locus of control
In personality psychology, locus of control refers to the extent to which individuals believe that they can control events that affect them.
External locus of control is belief that events in one’s life, whether good or bad, are caused by uncontrollable factors such as the environment, other people, or a higher power.
Internal locus of control is belief that events in one’s life, whether good or bad, are caused by controllable factors such as one’s attitude, preparation, and effort.
Now, the more you are able to develop internal locus of control, easier it will be for you to manage your emotions.

Refrain from knee-jerk reactions in response to your emotions.
UNDERSTAND OTHER'S EMOTIONS- EMPATHIZE
It is the capacity to feel the same emotions as being felt by another person. For
developing empathy, do the following:
Listen carefully to what the other person is saying
Avoid biases and prejudices
Your emotion should "tune in" to the other person's emotions.
