Before I get into a few questions, may you introduce both yourself and Elrond Network for us, please?

Benjamin: Thanks a lot, can't wait to share more about Elrond.
To tell you a bit about myself, I previously joined the NEM core team in 2014 to lead product, marketing, and community, helping take the project from a Bitcointalk post to a global billion dollar product. I have also co-founded Metachain Capital to invest in ambitious founders solving critical problems in the blockchain space. Also started ICO Market Data with my brother to streamline investment expertise.

I had a clear intuition on how the solution would look, but needed to test it against the brightest technical minds I knew and see what I was missing. So, I gathered a few of my smartest technical friends, and had an in-depth discussion about this. The discussion continued for about a month, when it became clear they had a breakthrough. This is how Elrond began - it was clear we could come with 1000x better solution then bitcoin and ethereum, and the point when we started working on formalizing our initial intuition.

Lets get started with a few questions from me
What are you aiming to build with Elrond Network, once everything is fully operational?

Benjamin: Elrond is a new blockchain architecture, designed from scratch to bring a 1000x cumulative improvement in throughput and execution speed. To achieve this, Elrond introduces two key innovations: a novel Adaptive State Sharding mechanism, and a Secure Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm, enabling linear scalability with a fast, efficient, and secure consensus mechanism. Thus, Elrond can process upwards of 10,000 transactions per second (TPS), with 5-second latency, and negligible cost, attempting to become the backbone of a permissionless, borderless, globally accessible internet economy. All this is up and running right now in the testnet.

All this is built by a team of experienced entrepreneurs along with 13 engineers and researchers with significant blockchain backgrounds and technical experience at Microsoft, Google, Intel, and NTT DATA. The team includes two PhDs in CS & AI, multiple math, CS, and AI Olympiad champions, and a former member of the NEM core team.

What is your current progress towards achieving that vision?

Benjamin: We have started work on Elrond in Oct 2017, released the technical paper in May 2018, released the first prototype in July 2018 and made that open source in November. From that point we decided to rewrite everything from scratch and improve things even further for our testnet, and achieved a 30x improvement from prototype to testnet.
Following that Elrond has reached a very important milestone in June 2019 by launching the public testnet, and processing >10k TPS with only 5 shards. We cannot overstate the importance of this milestone as Elrond becomes the most advanced state sharded proof of stake architecture. In addition to all this, we have also launched a simple and beautiful blockchain explorer and wallet where community can test things out.
June was also the month when Elrond closed the first funding round with Binance Labs, Electric Capital, NGC, Maven 11 and Woodstock as strategic investors.
After that, Elrond has concluded the highest demand IEO to date on Binance launchpad(thanks you Binance! :pray:), and we're currently pushing forward with significant progress on the technical and business side.

The next steps will be the battle of nodes competition which will be launched during the next days along with the validator economics, all in preparation for longer period of network stress testing, after which the mainnet will come.

What makes Elrond Network different? What's your secret ingredient that you use to go to the next level?

Benjamin: Apart the key innovative technology that we have built and are bringing to market, perhaps the strongest point of Elrond is that from the start we have set out to build a team with which we could literally build rockets if wanted to.

The fact that we have taken the time to do this, has put Elrond in a spot to execute on the hardest problems in the space much faster than almost any team in the world. A a focused team & ferocious appetite for execution is exactly what defines Elrond and will continue to bring huge results.

How can developers & technical people contribute and how do you plan to get them involved?

Benjamin: Awesome to be here with your commuity! 🙂
What very important is that we have perhaps the most advanced state sharded proof of stake architecture working right now. We have processed >65k TPS with 20 shards in our lasts tests. This is what devs will love in addition to the flexible tools we will offer.

In the meantime, the Battle of Nodes is a public adversarial game that will combine all the metrics together and produce the highest level of stress testing of the protocol. We expect it to start in aprox. 2 weeks from now, and hope to get as many contributors as possible. We have designed a new landing page to ease up the participation process, and we'll make it available before the programme starts. We are very impressed to see more than 100 people are playing with the validator nodes already, and are very excited to share the first economics rewards draft on Tuesday. I can already tell you that we will have 40–50% rewards for staking nodes for the first year, which will have a huge effect on the circulating supply.

We will probably have between 30–40% of the stake bonded right from the start, so we can't wait to start the process and let the validators in.
