From the moment Musk’s takeover was announced, figures from the French far-right expressed their enthusiasm. Florian Philippot, leader of the nationalist party Les Patriotes, celebrated the news by declaring that "the censors will have to pack their bags" . In September 2024, far-right groups in the European Parliament nominated Elon Musk for the Sakharov Prize, an award recognizing defenders of human rights and freedom of thought. Thierry Mariani, a Member of the European Parliament for the National Rally, justified the nomination by claiming that Musk was promoting "a truly free and independent debate" on X, resisting the threats of "woke ideology and radical Islamism".
