French Far-Right Tries Everything to Get Elon Musk’s Attention on X
Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, later rebranded as X, the French far-right has been making repeated efforts to capture the billionaire’s attention on the platform. These attempts are part of a broader strategy to benefit from Musk’s growing influence in the media and political landscape.
From the moment Musk’s takeover was announced, figures from the French far-right expressed their enthusiasm. Florian Philippot, leader of the nationalist party Les Patriotes, celebrated the news by declaring that "the censors will have to pack their bags" . This reaction reflects the hope among far-right movements that content moderation on X—often perceived as censorship—would be reduced.

In September 2024, far-right groups in the European Parliament nominated Elon Musk for the Sakharov Prize, an award recognizing defenders of human rights and freedom of thought. Thierry Mariani, a Member of the European Parliament for the National Rally, justified the nomination by claiming that Musk was promoting "a truly free and independent debate" on X, resisting the threats of "woke ideology and radical Islamism".
More recently, in February 2025, a meeting titled "Make Europe Great Again" was held in Madrid, bringing together far-right figures such as Marine Le Pen, Viktor Orban, and Matteo Salvini. Elon Musk was also present at the event, demonstrating the appeal he holds for these political movements
These actions highlight the French far-right’s determination to align itself with Elon Musk and his vision of free speech on social media. By drawing his attention on X, these movements hope to gain increased visibility and an implicit endorsement from the
billionaire, strengthening their position in public discourse.
