Talking Elephant Tourism With Sadie From Eclectic Trekker
Hey guys! I hope you're all doing well.
I'm really excited to make some brand new content for Steemit, but in the meantime I thought I'd begin sharing with you some of my favourite and most popular videos from YouTube and elsewhere online. I've gone back two years to bring you some of these so never mind my hair - hahaha.
First up, I want to share with you a three-part series that I made with my friend Sadie. For those unaware, I actually started out as kind of a misfit travel blogger, and it was in the course of travel blogging that Sadie and I connected. She, like me, wrote about ethical tourism and we met when I was living in Chiang Mai at the end of 2015. Sadie was coming off of a few months of volunteering throughout Malaysia and Thailand and she had so much amazing information to share.
Part 1 of our series is all about elephant tourism and the horrible truth behind it; far more people are aware of the problem now than back in 2015, but if by chance you haven't heard of the "the crush" yet, please watch this video to find out what it is. And if you are aware, you will still find this chat fascinating as Sadie has had some amazing experiences looking after elephants.
Please consider upvoting and commenting and consider following me if you haven't done so already. And keep an eye out for part 2 of my chat with Sadie, which is all about coral regrowth, and part 3, which is all about the illegal wildlife trade.
xx Karyn
P.S. Because I'm still learning about tags on Steemit I totally stuffed them up for this post and never intended elephanttourism to be the main category. Lol. Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually.

This is so important! Apparently most people still don't realise how much abuse and violence those wonderful beings must endure in the tourism industry.
Visiting Elephant Nature Park is on my dream list. I so admire Lek Chailert! She's doing such wonderful work for so many animals.
Thank you for this video!
I completely agree. This last year when we were living in Chiang Mai I heard from another vlogger that most of the elephant riding companies are now struggling to get Western tourists to use their services. Which is great! But unfortunately non Western tourists still are largely unaware of the problem. There is still so much work to do.
I would love to go to ENP too! I feel I must say though that since we filmed this video, I have had a few vegan travel bloggers tell me they have reservations about ENP's work as they feel it is still exploiting the elephants in some way (due to the fact so much money is now being made by people going to visit the rescued elephants). But I am sure nobody involved with ENP intends to exploit them. If the elephants are happy and healthy, that's all that matters. :)
Good Luck ;)
Thank you!
