[Electroneum] Weekly News Roundup (09/03/18)

Current Price: £0.034 | $0.047

Another week has flown by, feels like only yesterday I posted the last Electroneum update. No big announcements yet, and we're yet to have a full run through of the events from last weeks MWC in Barcelona. The past few days have seen more retractions from the market, with Bitcoin having lost around $3000 off it's value from earlier in the week.

Some users have reported issues with both the web and app wallets, but we'll get into more detail on that later on. The price of ETN has taken a big hit as well, losing around 16% per day over the past couple of days. We'll look into this, and much more in this weeks news. Let's get into it!

Mobile Miner Payout Boost

The Mobile Miner has been live for almost a full week now, and so far over 50,000 people are using it to earn free ETN. Hopefully, you are one of those eager mobile miners! The team announced after two days of mining, that the payouts would be boosted by 300%, which I'm sure you'll agree is a sizable boost. According to their announcement via Facebook, this will not affect the longevity of their mining payout model.

The idea of the Mobile Miner is to introduce new or inexperienced cryptocurrency enthusiasts to the world of mining, without degrading their phones battery or chips. The ETN earnt through the system could potentially be used to offset the cost of a handset or even line rental.

I've been using the Mobile Miner since the second wave of beta testers were given access to it, and I have to say it's performing overall just as I had hoped. I leave it running in the background with no noticeable dip in battery power or resources throughout the whole day. Benchmarking seems to be a bit on the low side, but with this new boost to the amount paid out, that shouldn't be too much of an issue for people. Have you tried out the new Mobile Miner yet? Let me know your experiences in the comments section.

New Exchange Listings

One surprising nugget of news this week was that ETN is now being listed on two new exchanges, Vebitcoin and CryptoHub. The community seems to be taking this news with a pinch of salt, as some are stating that the low volumes of trading on CryptoHub are the cause of the current price retraction. Both of these are new exchanges to me, and I'm yet to do any real research into them. If any of you guys know anything about either of these, do let me know down in the comments section.

No other exchange news this week, and we've still got Kucoin and HitBTC to look forward to!

Web & App Wallet Issues

Many users have been reporting issues with the web and app wallets, particularly transfers not going through or seeming to get stuck. The team are reporting that these issues should now largely be fixed, but if you are having issues and submit a support ticket, expect delays of up to 27 days before you get a response. I did test the app wallet out myself by transferring 100ETN to @Calluna, and although it took a full day before everything seemed to clear and go through ok, it did indeed transfer without any real issues. The wallets still seem fairly buggy, so maybe hold back from making any large transfers for the short term.

If you run the CLI wallet, then the next item is for you...

Electroneum Node Update/Revert

"URGENT UPDATE FOR ALL PEOPLE RUNNING ELECTRONEUM NODE
To compile from source:
Please visit https://github.com/electroneum/electroneum
For new Linux, Windows and Mac binaries:
https://github.com/electroneum/electroneum/releases/tag/v0.11.0.0-revert
This update reverses our node version with the bug but fixes the block 202612 issue, thanks to community member KnifeOfPi who spotted that issue first and provided a fix.
We will be working with the community and our internal team to find out what went wrong and work towards ensuring it doesn't happen again in the future.
This update needs to be applied immediately please.
Just to repeat, no transactions will have been lost due to this issue.
Thanks to the team who dropped everything to get this problem fixed and thanks to the community who not only have supported us, but also got stuck in to the Electroneum code to help, as they are as passionate about ETN as we are."
From Electroneum Facebook Announcement

The above is the full statement taken from Electroneum's Official Facebook page regarding the current state of the node software. They have issued a new binary that solves the block 202612 issue, after taking some much needed advice from the community, as well as the issues they had hit with the "updated" previous node version, 0.11.0.1.

If you run the node software, especially if you use the CLI wallet that comes with it, it's important to download the latest 0.11.0.0-revert software.

Well, that's your lot for this week. What do you think about these updates? Have you come across any issues with the wallets or node software? Do let me know in the comments down below, I always look forward to hearing your views. The app is working perfectly on my Samsung note 8. No probs here. Thanks for spreading the news.!

I'm glad to hear it! Apparently they've boosted the payments yet again over the past day, so expect even more free ETN!

What speed do you get on the note 8 ?

32 H/s on average

I tried out the mobile miner it took like 50 hours to mine one coin and my poor iPhone had to stay plugged in and on the WiFI at all times :(

Was this the official Electroneum app you were using? It sounds very much like your phone was actually being used to mine some coins. The last I heard, the iOS Mobile Miner hadn't been launched yet and was only available for Android devices currently. What's the name of the app you've been using?
I don't have an iPhone, so I can't check whether Electroneum has been approved for iOS yet. Maybe another user will be able to shed some light on this.
