STEEM Mobile Update: Fuel Replaced
I went over to the Chevy dealership today mostly because I realized I left my wireless earbuds in the Volt's passenger armrest compartment, and didn't want to wait until the backordered coolant pump finally arrives to get them back.
According to what they now tell me, the fuel has been flushed out of the engine, tank and fuel system. It was then replaced by the correct, premium fuel I should've put in there to begin with. That's nice to have out of the way, and a load off my mind.
I found the STEEM Mobile happily charging from one of the dealership's level 2 charging stations. There was a newer, 2016 Volt across from it. (Not visible in the pic due to the angle). I sure envy their 16.5kwh battery packs (mine is 10.5kwh) but I don't like the new styling.
I confess, it was a comforting sight. This thing's been waiting on that part for (I think?) two weeks now. It's an open question when the part will arrive. I am gonna go ahead and assume this is why I got such a great deal on it. The last owner probably balked at the cost of the part and the estimated wait to get a replacement, said "fuck it" and sold it to me.
It was interesting to see the charging station. This one is much smaller and less ostentatious than the ones I am used to seeing. Probably because they were a novelty early on and designers wanted them to be highly visible. But now they are becoming a mundane part of life, and people want them to be small and unobtrusive.
This is still a big step up from when I only had the electric scooter, and the only shop that would service it regularly took 6 months to fix even small problems. Chevy is a big brand, so my options for service are not so limited. I've just had some bad luck with this troublesome coolant pump.
Anyway, got my earbuds back. Also got my nice water bottle back (it was in the cup holder) and got to see/touch my car again. So bittersweet. ;-; It'll all be worth it once the repair is complete and I'm free to drive this thing wherever I please. Naturally I'll document all of it and keep you beauties in the loop.
That's all for now, stay cozy!
@alexbeyman,
Chevy is a huge brand! And those cars are extremely well! Few years back I was planning to buy one and I had not enough money to proceed! Anyway, one day I will do, sometimes a car like this one!
Hope they will fix the problem soon and you will get your car back! STEEM mobile that would be a good name of it!
Cheers~
Glad you got the STEEM mobile back. Electric cars are the future.
I don't have it back. That's not what the article says.
Can't wait for the day I buy my first electric vehicle. Do you have lots of charging stations around your city? and if so who puts them there, do they cost, how long does a charge take?
Yes, plenty. It's a bunch of different companies. Charging takes a different amount of time depending on the size of the battery and the type of charger.
Level 1 is the same voltage and amperage as a house wall socket and takes 13 hours. Level 2 takes either 4 or 8 hours depending on the wattage of the car's onboard charging system, and operates at 220v (like your washing machine).
Level 3 is DC fast charging, which operates at 480v and charges most EVs to 80% full in 30-45 minutes depending on the battery size. The last 20% takes as long as the first 80% because of how lithium battery charging works, so most people don't bother. A full fast charge would take between 1 and 1.5 hours.
happy to see some progress on your Steem mobile. Hope the remaining parts will arrive soon and we will see your Steem mobile on road. Good luck
Cheers!
Man, it's such a bummer that you have to wait so long for this part. I really wanna see this thing be in good to go shape where you can actually get some use out of it and start making mods to it. I'm glad they emptied the gas out for you though and took care of that, at least it's something.
Also, I hope they do make charging stations around the size in the future. I've only seen a few that were fairly large and out of place looking, and the ones you found there are much more pleasing to the eye and definitely seem more practical size wise.
The future has much more to offer and these cars are just the beginning steps , went for your earbuds and found this beauty
Nice update! New around here and followed. Been looking at your past posts, really dig the Minecraft posts and the short stories! Looking forward to more :)
money and patience but still the deal was good right? Not too costly when summed up with the new part
Man, I would love an electric vehicle. Saw something on the VW e-golf recently and really liked how understated it was.
I really don't understand why it should take so long to get a replacement part, though. That seems pretty outrageous. Especially for a "domestic" car.
I remember my stepfather going on and on about "Gotta buy domestic. Too hard to get parts for those far'n cars..." Except it was his damn GMC truck that was always broken down.
Happy to know that but sadly you have to wait too long for this part
But the old says, "if the ending is good everything is good"
Have a good day ,nice post
