Language disorder in children / exercises to improve and stimulate language in children
What is language disorder?
Language impairment is the difficulty of acquiring ,expressing and communicating oral and written language, delaying the ability to communicate. This disorder affects not only the ability to speak but also to learn, understand and understand others, directly affecting the emotional and social area of the individual.
The first three years of a child's life are essentially important for the development of language, at this time it is where they develop and acquire the maximum communication skills, since the child's brain at this stage is in full maturity and development, so the acquisition of speech and language skills is easier.
If a child has any kind of language development, he or she may suffer certain consequences that will affect his or her normal development. A child who cannot express him/herself through speech can:
- Isolate yourself from your environment, friends and family. Which makes him sad.
- Difficulty in learning and reading acquisition.
- Low self-esteem, among others.
Factors influencing language development:
The language disorder may be acquired, or there may simply be a delay in language development. The acquired language disorder can be caused by brain injury, but the delay in language development can be caused by lack of stimulation. Developmental language disorder is very common in children.
Factors that negatively influence this development may be genetic, social, or hereditary.

As children grow older, they develop other ways and means of communication. If the child's communication skills are found to be poor or non-existent, there may be a problem with language development, and a specialist may need to be sought to work with and stimulate speech development.

Since they are babies, it can be noticed when a child has or will have language difficulty. There are babies who are not very expressive, or simply do not listen to the call, or to any sound. After the age of 2, it is difficult for them to pronounce words, they begin to speak later about their natural age, they do not understand what they are saying, and they have little verbal affluence. As they grow older it becomes difficult to establish a conversation with others and express their needs, feelings and emotions, when they notice these symptoms, they should seek specialized help.
How language develops in children.?
Children's language develops spontaneously from birth. They learn to communicate by crying, through crying they express their needs. The best way to develop children's language is to provide them with an environment full of pictures, sounds and lots of speech, so that language acquisition develops naturally. If the child is not given an environment rich in language stimulation, he or she is unlikely to learn it.

✦ In babies.
From the moment they are born, language can be stimulated through games and songs, pronouncing words correctly, motivating them to speak by calling everything by its name. Show objects and repeat their names in order to expand their vocabulary. Accompanying expressions with the words , is an excellent way to stimulate language in babies. Place them to listen to different, animal-like sounds, natural sounds and musical instruments.
✦ From the age of 2
From this age onwards, reading habits can be initiated, which will help the child to acquire an endless number of words to use when speaking. Start using short phrases such as "Drink water", "Let's give you a bath", etc. Teach him to ask for things "speaking", and not just with gestures. Tongue movement exercises are very beneficial for the child's language.
Some exercises to stimulate language are:
Oral and facial exercises:
These are exercises that help to develop and stimulate all the organs that are in the mouth, favouring the acquisition of language. These exercises are recommended by the specialist when a child's speech is impaired.
These exercises are very simple and can be practiced at home, under the guidance of a specialist.
This is a wonderfully useful article @silverwhale. I am certain that MANY parents of young children are sitting in this situation with their kids and may not even be fully aware of it.
