A new mom will learn quickly when the baby tells her that she is tired or hungry. The baby will also tell you when he's about to get the diaper dirty - or “get rid of” in the lingo. The signs are usually a growl and move to a certain position. My son had that distant look on his face and he was making a lot of noise to let everyone around him know what was going on!

Many mothers in America now practice "elimination communication" where they observe the baby for signs that he is ready to "eliminate" and then toss him over the toilet or potty. The technique requires almost constant observation of the baby, but apparently the baby quickly learns the procedure and knows that if he growls loud enough it saves him having to sit with a diaper full of you you know what!

The savings of having to buy far fewer diapers are considerable and of course you would be doing your part to help the environment.

Potty training at the “traditional” age of about 23 can be a real battle and a scary time for a child. My daughter stubbornly refused to use the potty or the toilet for weeks and eventually.
