As I told you in chapter one the origin of the Charango is Los Andes, it's a vast territory that includes big parts of the following countries: Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.

Each country and region has their own typical and folklorical genres that are played with charango and other instruments.

In Argentina we typically play charango in genres like Carnavalito, Cueca, Bailecito. I'be talking about these ones in next chapters.

In this entry I would like to show you some typical ways of playing the Charango.

• As a melodic instrument, it is usually played making two parallel voices in 3rd or 6th.

• As an armonic instrument, it is arpeggiated or strummed, of this last one there are two characteristic types: 'Repique' and 'Trémolo'
