The value of education in a liberal arts! Education is the training of the mind

in #education7 years ago

One of my favorite quotes of all time. It sits right on my office desk where I am constantly reminded of its importance. Here’s the story behind the quote:

Einstein was once given a copy of a questionnaire Thomas Edison created to screen job applicants. A journalist wanted to see whether Einstein could answer the questions on the questionnaire.

As soon as he read the question: “What is the speed of sound?” he said: “I don’t know. I don’t burden my memory with such facts that I can easily find in any textbook.”

He went on to say: “It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he does not really need a college. He can learn them from books. The value of an education in a liberal arts college is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks.”

We can't keep saying we come from a poor background and continue to leave that life of poverty. I have seen some who also lived and was also born in abject poverty yet they rule their own. Being poor isn't lack of ideas but lack of execution. Being poor is a state of mind .
