I originally posted this answer on Quora. 

Mark Zuckerburg doesn't have a degree.

Neither does two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

The Wright Brothers, who invented the airplane, did not go to college.

No members of the band U2 have a college degree.

Bill Gates doesn't have a degree.

Steve Jobs doesn't have one either.

Oh yeah, the guy who invented the lightbulb.  The icon eternally associated with ideas.  The guy who made that, Thomas Edison, did not go to college.

    Agreed. I also included these artists and other tinkerers from history to show it's not just tech business where this can work.

      Yes - but not everyone is able to start their own business. You're making the assumption that everyone has good, successful ideas.
