When did the world's first restaurant open?
We all love going to restaurants in order to eat our favorite food, catch up with friends, or share a quiet evening with our loved ones. There are now millions of restaurants all over the world serving hungry customers, from cheap mom and pop places to 5-star restaurants that serve exquisite food.
But have you ever stopped to wonder where the world's first restaurant was opened? As it turns out, the very first restaurant in the world was open in Paris in 1765. The man who opened it was a tavern keeper by the name of Monsieur Boulanger, who served one simple dish: sheep's feet in a white sauce.
However, this being Paris, you may wonder to yourself what the main difference was between Boulanger's business and hundreds of cafes and inns that were popping up all over Paris in the 18th century.
It was Boulanger's claims that his dish could restore your vitality and health.
Here's another fun fact: The first restaurant to be opened in the United States went by the name of the Delmonico's restaurant, which opened in 1827 by two brothers, Giovanni and Pietro Delmonico in New York City. Delmonico's restaurant went to prosper over 100 years in the United States!
