During the British colonial rule, the process of establishing the University of Dhaka began in the second decade of the twentieth century to develop independent nationhood. The university doors were opened for students on 1st July, 1921. At that time Dhaka University was established in the most elite and beautiful Ramna area of ​​about 600 acres of land , in the pleasant environment of East Bengal and the abandoned Bhabnadi of Assam Province and the buildings of Dhaka College (current Curzon Hall ). This day of establishment is celebrated as " University of Dhaka Day " every year .

Its journey started as a residential university with three faculties and 12 departments. The Faculty of Arts, Science, and Law included Sanskrit and Bangla, English, Education, History, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Persian and Urdu, Philosophy, Economics and Politics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Law.
