RE: Learn Guitar: E Phrygian Pentatonic
Interesting post. I am a musician from Pakistan. In indian/pakistani classical music this is known as one of the most famous raag "Malkauns". Interestingly the simple pentatonic scale is not regarded as a raag on its own or mixed with other notes. Specially in north indian classical music declaring a set of notes as raag is not just based on the presence of sequence or set of notes sounding melodious. It has to be such a combination that could be sung for hours in same notes and it will not loose its charm. But thats only in the north indian or pakistani music. The south indian classical music has thousands of raags since the rules are not strict. Anyway malkauns is the only raag that is close to blues in eastern classical music. There are many amazing compositions and classical music in this raag. One of the performance specifically i would like to share do give it a listen malkauns by ustad salamat ali khan and sons on youtube its an old performance but if you wanna see a person shredding from mouth this is great.
this, seems pretty cool?
hope to check out india and pakistan and everywhere someday seems amazing. Would love to make it to Kumba Mela
This is nice too but there was another video. I think it was deleted. That performance was just amazing. Yes you should check out indo/pak music is very vast.
