THE DESIRE FOR FREEDOM
In my findings, I have found that no human being want to be in bondage, every individuals, tribes, nations of the world wants to be free. That is a desire for freedom. Teens and youths of nowadays desire to have freedom. A desire to do things personally and privately, free to pick up and decide the kind of wears to wear out, decide the kind of food to eat, decide the kind of film to watch, decide the kind of friends to have and so on. Problems begin to arise at home when parents deprived their wards freedom. Parents must be educated to know how to manage their children at such periods. I remember when I was young my mum chooses the hairstyle and haircut I and my siblings must do but as we mature we became inconvenient with this and we choose for ourselves our hairdo. No adult especially teens like to be monitored, there is always a desire to do things at free will, we want to do things on our own, we do not to be under pressure to do things, we cherish our privacy and freedom. All these are not really wrong they are just signs of maturity and we must learn to manage such changes.
Most times, our dedication towards passing O'level exam, doing well in jamb and getting an admission into higher institution are not only because we really love learning that much but because we want frreedom from home. The curiosity even increases, as we become more restless when it is taking longer years to get admission into higher institution. As pursuing academics from higher institutions of learning offers people the privilege of leaving the umbrella of their parent to a life of freedom on campus very early. This helps youths to enter into maturity they may never have entered while under their parents.
The desire for freedom is good, they are good signs that you are emotionally okay, they are signs that you are no longer a child but now becoming an adult but it is just that it requires wisdom to manage else it could lead to trouble.
When we eventually gained admission into the campus, it suddenly began to done on us that finally freedom is here. The much desired liberty we cried and sought for has come. Joy comes on us and we begin to think of how to exploit this freedom on campus, many of us come with great decisions of how we are going to enjoy life on campus, I remembered I came with such decisions that I will now be free to keep boyfriends, do whatever I like, wear whatever I want, go to places I want.
It is not wrong, it is just that we must understand that freedom is a coin having two sides. It has it perils and privileges. We must understand both sides, learn from the perils and take advantage of the privileges. Your freedom must not be too extreme.
