With that exponential method you would be able to gather them quickly, assuming that everyone manages to comply with the established condition.
I think that in these cases you should use mathematics and statistics to handle a real margin of error and thus have an accurate appreciation of the periods.

It takes only 17 period to the power of 2 to reach 131,072.
So all depends about how long a member need to recruit 2 more fans.
If it takes 1 week, we will be 100,000 in few months.
If it take 1 month, It will take one and half year.
It took me 14 hours to get 2 supporters.
Let see how many times it takes you to find 2 supporters ! Who would you recommend ?
