What I learned: Formatting

in #education6 years ago (edited)

Okay... Most of y'all are techie people... I am not! I'm a farmers wife, a chef, a homeschool mom... But not a techie. I can type up a post and even center photos... That is about it! LOL! I know there is a guide, but it is long, and doesn't have all the things... I learn better by doing. So @xcountytravelers (my mom) helped me! Yay!

  • Bullet Points! Had no clue how to make bullet points. You do an asterisk (*) and a space. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

  • how to italic font You surround what you want in italics in asterisks. (*)

  • how to bold font You surround what you want in bold in two asterisks (**)

Titles! For words you want huge do (#) space and type.

Smaller Title if it isn't as important. Same as above but do (##) space then type

And the smallest I think is three (###) space then type.

Nope, 4 (####) does even smaller! Still learning my friends!

Does 5 (#####) work? OMG it does! Okay lets assume you get the drift!

You can also put this fancy box by doing 3 squiqqlies (~~~) on the line before and the line after!

Next I learned how to justify all of this typing I was doing because run ons are not that fun when you cannot tell where everything starts and stops so it is made easier to read all of this typing if it is all justified in a way that keeps the edges all equal and is more satisfying to the eyes. See how the sides line up? So much nicer! Now to justify your paragraph you do < div class="text-justify"> Minus the space between the first arrow and the div, and end with this minus the space between the arrow and the backslash < /div>.

Look! I learned how to use photos as dividers! Also, I made that using Canva. So that was fun!! And to do a plain divider you do 3 dashes (---) on its own line.

Oh yes, I also learned how to put the picture on the side and be able to add text next to it! So to do this you type < div class="pull-left">
< img src="insert web address to photo here">< /div>. Now remember to minus the spaces right after the first arrow! But it disappears when I try to show you.

So if you are like me, I hope this helped. If you are tech savvy then I hope you had a good laugh! Thank you again Mom for teaching me alot of steem stuff! Also I am glad I'm putting this here so I can find it when I need help tomorrow.

@andiekins, I remember when I learned about Markdown. It changed my Steem experience and the formatting of my Steem post.

As a result, I recreate a FREE course about Markdown for Steem. I would appreciate any feedback you might have. Let me know if I missed something: http://steemskills.teachable.com

Lets Try It

Hey, it works!!

You are doing great! As you said there are guides, but they are not as easy as you explained

It is so awesome that you are learning markdown. I am still having trouble with it, so I have been using my html skills. I think I will be using your guide to format one of my posts. This was extremely more understandable, for me, than the guides I have already seen. You go girl!

Great little tutorial, definitely ads to my "design skills". :) Your post has been saved. Thanks for sharing.
