All people have suffered from jealousy at some point in your lives, and sometimes we do not know how to identify them, they are just feelings that appear. In children, jealousy is inevitable and normal, since it is their way of expressing their emotions about something.

Children are very innocent and may feel jealous for the arrival of a new sibling, changes in family, love, friendship, or even toys, but not knowing how to express them can cause damage to their personality and the emotions of others.

As long as the child feels more affection or love towards someone or something, he will have more episodes of jealousy.

How do jealousies originate in children?

Children tend to feel jealous when they feel that they lose the love of the person they want, or when they take something they really like, that is, they feel that their normal situation is being affected by others.

Example:

  • When they are only children, and await the arrival of a new brother.
  • When parents have a show of affection between them.
  • When the parents have a new partner
  • When they should share their favorite toys.
A child may feel jealous in any circumstance that he considers affects him in any way, so it is important to talk with them and explain that it is a valid feeling but that it should not be maintained and give them a lot of security, so that they are calm.

How to know when a child feels jealous?

Jealousy can manifest itself in different ways depending on the child's personality, but it is common for them to acquire aggressive and challenging behavior, confronting their parents to attract attention and generating discussions. They also tend to cry and throw tantrums no matter where they are, just to get what they want.

Children look for attention and want that everyone around them is aware of him and can get what they want with that negative attitude. For this reason it is important to be able to distinguish their actions in order to act correctly and to correct this behavior immediately so that the child can understand their emotions and avoid feeling jealous.

The most important thing is to know what is causing jealousy in the child, since that way it will be possible to put ourselves in their place and understand each of their attitudes, since they are very sensitive children and with emotions that are not able to distinguish completely.

It must be possible to distinguish if jealousy appears suddenly or is recurrent, in order to help the child in different ways, since it should not be recurrent and if you do, you have the option of seeking professional help.

It is also essential that the child be allowed to express what he feels as long as he does so in an appropriate manner and without causing harm to himself or to third parties. Since the ideal is that parents can maintain a relationship and assertive communication with their children, where they show that they understand the situation to show them other ways of expressing themselves in a positive way.

We must understand children when they express themselves negatively, in order to understand the origin of the problem and thus be able to treat it. Jealousy is difficult to control even for adults, so we should not bother or punish children abruptly.

We must fill them with love, security, happiness and also make them understand that we understand them and that nothing can occupy the place they have in your life, and in the lives of all the people around you.
