I am not completely dead! - Pictures and stories from the Eco Village in the Forest
.. Actually I am very very much alive! So alive that I don't have time to sit down and stare at a screen...!
I am living in a forest with no electricity (a part from som solar panels on a camper), we didn't have any water until 4 days ago. We have hardly any phone or internet reception, our kitchen is basically a fireplace (almost) and everthing is a bit hectic!
Sometimes I enjoy the simple life and other times (like today) it is driving me crazy and I just want a hot shower, a boiler to make a cup of tea and a freaking internet connection!
(especially because life is never really simple when you try to build a fucking eco village on the side, with no infrastructure that works!)
So I went to my mother's house today.. And for once in around a month place my kid in front of the TV to get something that looks like space and time.. And to update you guys a bit!
The funny thing is that I forgot my camera with all my latest photos in the forest, so I can't show you the newest updates!
But I still haven't given you the semi new, so I guess I'll start there!
the 24th and 25th of may we had a Seeding Festival for the project! We worked like crazy to get everything sorted, starting with toilets and kitchen and the space and the stage and everything else you need for a festival!
We kind of made it, the bummer was that nobody really showed up, but that's life and we at least managed to create some infrastructure that we could use after!
Here are some photos from the preparations and the festival:
This is not really a before photo, but I couldn't really find any from before (I always forget that!) This is after spending 2 days on clearing the room from garbage and bringing in the bar and starting washing the floor - it was full of a weird oily substance... Took a while..!
here's some of the trash from inside
starting to make a door to the kitchen
Building compost toilets
Kitchen now with "door" (the real door is actually up now, but I don't have a picture of it yet!
while the kids are playing
and also helping - here clearing around the "Smedje" (Smithy) sign (the building used to be a blacksmith workshop)
now we can cook!
building the stage
and the bar
meeting, trying to connect the dots!
more building up of space
Getting there!
Toilets are up!
And the festival can begin!
Now a place to be :)
The old ceramic workshop was full of all these old plaster molds which we used for decoration
light installations
bands are playing
Viking Moses
night pancakes
Saturday we had a drop in arts and crafts market and workshops for children
Making seed bombs
Our little pop up forest café
Button workshop
leather workshop
seeding station for planting seeds in the used compostable cups
And that was it for the festival!
Since then I have made a home out of this one:
-picture from the winter, looking forward to show you how it looks now :)
and we have build a thriving greenhouse and already harvested the first cucumbers!
We have also developed our infrastructure and made a board for the tasks of the day.
We are working on making a loft in the Smithy and are generally cleaning up the land and always trying to make things a little bit better and just survive in the chaos!

THANK YOU!
I sometimes imagine living a life like this
In my heart, it is romantic
In my head... I know I am not cut out for it
But I still think it is amazing to be able to disconnect from modernisation and connect with nature and just get back to basics
Your pictures are amazing as always <33 and congratulations on the Curie :D
Thank you - yes that is my dream too, but it is slightly harder than I imagined!
Well I've lived this kind of way for a while, but it's such a big difference travelling and having no real obligations, to suddenly have the huge task of building up a place and community! That's a little more than basics.. But hopefully we will be there one day. That's the dream.
You will
And what's that they say....
Enjoy the process? :)
So, so, so, so, so lovely to hear from you again, Freja ! And what an incredible post ! WOW !
As usual, you narrate things so wonderfully that I feel like I was talking to an friend, who's gushing and brimming with gorgeous energy as she update me what has been going on in her life :) So lovely~
The photos are wonderful, I love how your eco village is coming together, and though there wasn't a lot of attendance at the Seeding Festival, the changes and works that you have done will be carried through beautifully, for sure :)
I will look forward to seeing more updates, as always, and specially to seeing the before and after pictures!!!
Sending all my love~ <33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Yess - I will try to collect a lot of before and after photos for a post just with before / after photos! That will be so nice to look at as a reminder that we have actually done something! (And then I just love til see before and after pics XD )
Thank you! It's good to be back, if still just for short. I am gonna dive into the wilderness again soon.. Hope to make some sort of setup where I manage to plug in more often <3
You've been visited by @nateonsteemit from Homesteaders Co-op.
It's working! So glad to see your progress and the ways you're enjoying it. It sounds like a lot of hard work. Wish I was there and able to help, I love your project! Surprised @artemislives hasn't been here with #ecotrain yet. They're all about eco villages :)

Thank you! Yes it's quite hard at times, didn't realise what a civilised adult I've become - thought I'd cope better with simple life, but as I said, it is just not very simple when you have so much work on the hands, if the base is not solid. So that part is harder than I imagined (especially with children, omg), but we will get there in time.. lots of time! <3

What a beautiful transformation. Good for you giving yourself respite when you need it!

Thank you! I think I might have taken it to the limit though, should have rested before, but now I am slowly recharging!
I can totally relate to that. I have that same tendency. Prioritizing ourselves can be so challenging.

The minimalist eco life and the modern life is a balance act you seem to be pulling off well. I need some eco life in my life , too much screens here. Interesting pics, thanks fro the share.
I don't think I have found quite the right balance yet, since things are still frustrating me immensely, but I am trying to find it! And getting there! SOmetimes you can also get a little too much forest (and ticks and mosquito bites!)
Amazing progress in so little time! Please keep posting!

I'll try! With limited electricity and internet access it is really difficult, but I will do my best! Thank you!
