Life as a Lever [Creative Writing]

This is a short abstractive scribble I wrote. I won't describe it in simple words in hopes that some may understand the meaning, which I am certain most will. So let me know in the comments what you make of this if you are interested ^^.

The Lever

So, let's say that we have a small dark room, totally empty and void, there is only one simple wooden lever and one door that has no textures to it. It is known that it exists, yet covered in the darkness and simple to disregard. The door holds interest to us as the Lever itself.

Typically if we had interest in what the door holds behind it we would push on the lever in hopes of opening the door, even if we were uncertain of what was to happen.

Now let's say that this Lever is Life itself and let's leave the door as a mystery for now. Now let's create one person in that room and call him "Humanity". As a collective understanding, embodied in one thing. Now with that said, what does he do to that lever?

Before reading any further, give it a go and try to envision his doings.

What he does.

If that was the case, he would first start to look at the lever, examining every detail of it, in hopes of understanding a bit more of its origins. When that is done and there is nothing more to examine, he would take a deeper look, take a piece of the lever, make scientific research to find out what it is made of, in hopes of understanding its origins, the materials it is made of and how the materials were made. He would have to take quite the time to do that, but never the less he spends ages doing it.

After all the time spent he finds this lever as the grand masterpiece, something unworldly beyond logical comprehension, purposely placed, yet holding no logical purpose.

He spends so much time in his research that he starts loving it, now that is a priority for our friend and that is all that matters to him. Researching the ways of the mystical lever, in hopes of finding its meaning. But so much time has passed that he totally forgot about the existence of the door, as it was hidden in the dark. Suddenly he realizes it, yet the door is dark and has no texture. He can't see it or do research on it. The only logical thing would be the interconnectedness of the lever and the door.

Now our friend is placed in the spot where all his research and doings can burn to ashes if the lever was merely there to open the door. All the time all his doings and all his findings lingering to be destroyed and named pointless.

Can he bear seeing ages of research plunder? Can he take the loss of his time and can he let go of the feelings of regrets that might follow after that?

What does he do?

Thanks for reading!

I love this kind of psychology, it's really good to understand what someone would do in specific situation, helps in life a lot. I believe that '' humanity '' would open the doors even if he is uncertain about what will happen after, however it will take a lot of time to make that decision.

Nice to see you actually liked it <3
