RE: The Earthship Hut Workshop. 20 Volunteers, $5,000 and 2 weeks! Days 6-10 - The Roof!

in #ecotrain7 years ago

Yes there is such a different energy and vibe when its for free...skill sharing/workshops, theres less expectations and more fun!
Yes next may be a earth bag, but id need a team of strong volunteers! breastfeeding these days not so much lifting 20 kilo bags of earth around! :-), The other great advantage to insulating from the outside (as i did with my roofs)is that the rodents and bugs that would like to live there in the insulation are not so keen when its outside! and then they not in the house! but didnt yet insulate walls from outside hmmmm.....i love to design it all in my head right now!

Sort:

right, GOOD point about the rodents!
might be worth mentioning here that we use coconut hair to insulate internally here.. ALL bugs and pets and rodents are totally uninterested in it and it never seems to decompose even when left outside.. not sure how much coconut hair there is around the Nevada though! ;-)

lol! nope not many coconuts! I ve wondered if i could try grow some, i worship THE COCONUT! am a coconut butter junkie and for sure id love to use it in a build!, nope just got straw here! mice love that ;-), can buy hemp but is expensive, i just recently found a recycled wool n cotton clothing 4cm thick large bats/pads quite cheap in Granada builders supply, which was nice surprise, good for truck conversions and yurts :-)

yes, wool is the BEST.. both insulation wise and energetically! go for it! ;-)
