RE: Matriarchy: What is it, and what does a matriarchal society look like?
deep ponderings here! I can see a REALLY interesting theme coming up with our answers..
"Matriarchies are not just a reversal of patriarchy, with women ruling over men - as the usual misinterpretation would have it.
I think this is a key point, and makes me realise why its so hard for us to know what matriarchy is really about.. Maybe it isn't simply an opposite to patriarchy, and I really like how you describe it..
"They are based on maternal values: care-taking, nurturing, motherliness, which holds for everybody: for mothers and those who are not mothers, for women and men alike."
If you think about what opposites mean, it makes sense! Patriarchy is all about control and ownership.. SO it makes sense that patriarchy would not also be about control! Therefore what you say is so right!
I think im starting to get it!
That's an excellent point about patriarchy being about control and ownership! I think that's a really crucial piece you just uncovered there. Matriarchy is about consensus and equality and sharing. Good stuff, @eco-Alex. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you're feeling better!
