What It Means to Own Your Emotions
EcoTrain:
What Does it Mean to Own your Emotions?
I've been following the work of @kennyskitchen and his @tribesteemup project, as well as that of @eco-alex and his @ecotrain project. I'm keeping up with the work of these two guys specifically because they stand for everything I personally stand for, and then some. They're both attempting to make Earth a better place, while at the same time making Steemit a better, more successful place for authors of quality content whom are on the 'same page'. And recently the two projects have partnered up which is extremely cool! I would be honored for my work to be accepted into either group, should it be seen as being up to standard. Regardless, I will press on.
Today on the @ecotrain, @eco-alex asked the question,
What does it mean to own your emotions?
He then offered his own very insightful response, and invited passengers to chime in as well. Since I am at this point not a passenger on the Eco Train, I thought I'd post a response here, tagged for the train...
Alex's Article:
@eco-alex made wonderful points such as how powerful triggering from previous experiences can be, along with a typical desire to project blame for our emotions onto others. He pointed out that being honest, compassionate and forgiving of ourselves goes a long way toward mitigating our (otherwise) exaggerated emotions, and mentioned that when we fail to own our emotions, we tend to be ruled by them, much to the detriment of our own quality of life, as well as that of those with whom we share this beautiful planet. Finally, he offered three great questions for self inquiry. Self inquiry is a concept I hold near and dear, as (in my experience) no other technique matches the power of this one in regard to spiritual/mental/emotional health. Through self inquiry, we begin to own our emotions, which (in Alex's words) "is a very important aspect of Emotional Intelligence, probably the most important kind of intelligence that we can possess."
Bravo Alex, wonderful post, I could not agree more, on all counts!
And if I may, I'd like to take it a step further...
My Addition:
In my personal efforts to make Earth a better place to live (here on Steemit), my primary focus is on moving back toward the original design of the human species, aspects of which are generally not difficult to detect through observation of our natural attributes. It's pretty easy to tell from our habits that (in so many ways) we're light years from our design, and today's post by @eco-alex is a wonderful case-in-point.
The fact that humans prefer to be comfortable, pain free and happy are all solid indicators that we also prefer to have comfortable, pain free, happy relationships. Through simple self inquiry it becomes painfully clear (for most) that the majority of our relationships (bosses, co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, etc) are not entirely comfortable, pain free and happy, and certainly not as often as we would like. These relationships tend to have their happy moments, but let's be honest — for most, our interactions with others are (all too often) not really in line with our design specs. It's not at all uncommon for them to be strained, which is not our nature. And indeed, disproportionate emotional responses aren't either.
Exaggerated emotions, specifically the negative ones, are a product of (at least a momentary) lack of emotional health. The cause of this is twofold:
- The comprehensive programming of our minds and emotions at the hands of mainstream media, the "school" system, paid internet shills, etc. (The case of the TV not being a reflection of our culture, but being a creator of it).
- The comprehensive physical poisoning of the human body by way of highly toxic processed food, along with toxic waste deliberately dumped on a daily basis into Earth's atmosphere, water and soil. This unprecedented level of toxicity forced into the human body leaves the population sick, frightened, lethargic, illogical in our thinking, docile, and (most importantly) extremely vulnerable to the programming (mentioned above).
What's needed here, across the entire planet, is a return to the physical health we were designed to enjoy. Mental and emotional health follow right in step with physical health, or lack thereof. Without physical health, emotional health is almost impossible, and it shows in human relationships. The bad news is that the human race is very ill, physically and emotionally. The good news is that regaining true, complete health, physically and emotionally, can be done very simply, in a way that is precisely to our design.
Going any further with physical health in this article would take it well out of scope. If interested, please see my articles An Overview of our Food and The Most Powerful Medicine on the Planet.
The point is, when folks regain some (or better all) of their physical health, their emotional (and spiritual!) health will follow suit, and making best use of articles such as today's by @eco-alex becomes dramatically easier!
Thank you Alex, and thanks to all of you beautiful folks who are out here on the cutting edge of returning Earth and all inhabitants to a place where we're supposed to be, where we all want to be. A place of true love and mutual support.
This series is my contribution to the body of work that is now well in progress around the world. And maybe, just maybe help provide the spark for more to begin implementing the changes that lead us all back to that place of comfort and love, a new Earth, virtually devoid of pain and fear. Together.
It's not easy, but it is simple and wonderful.
It's The Voyage Home.
In Love and Service,
from the Bottom of my Heart

I think we keep missing one another on discord. I'll keep checking in till we hook up, and thanks again!
I totally agree that health can support emotional life. My most awful times emotionally are often linked to my adrenal functioning!!! When I found that out it was easy to take steps to manage it. I'm glad you have had the invite to the ecotrain! It's a great community of people. I also wrote on this question. I love the questions as they really get us thinking and conversing about interesting and important stuff!

well done @aware007 this is a great answer, you really went very deep with this and I love how you included the toxic food we are consuming, I often wonder how the different the world would be if we ate purely to nourish our bodies instead of comforting ourselves because of how we have been made to feel, if food was really seen as fuel. really happy to have you onboard the ecotrain xx
Thank you so very much! I'm sorry for the delayed response, just moved my son in with me for the first time in 6 years and it's been a little crazy around here. Your comments here are so thoughtful and amazingly kind, and very very much appreciated!
