Dilemma of Rice Harvest
The harvest gate is already open in the North Aceh Area. Farmers have been able to feel pleasure after more than three months of working hard to maintain and care for rice crops that are the commodities they plant.
Harvest is a time when farmers can be happy. How not, their income will increase and able to meet the needs of their lives both primary needs and secondary needs.
In addition to farmers who own paddy fields, farm workers will also enjoy happiness with the coming of the harvest. Farm laborers working on paddy fields such as cutting rice, threshing rice and rice hauling, are in need by the owner of the rice field and will certainly be paid in accordance with their respective fields.
Today, technology is growing very fast in all areas including in agriculture. In our place the already developed agricultural technology is a rice cutting machine. The existence of a rice cutting machine greatly facilitates us in managing the harvest. Formerly we had to spend about two days for the harvest management period starting cutting, threshing rice and rice hauling. Now with the rice cutting machine, we only take about 1-2 hours to harvest management. The existence of our cutting machine is very helpful and facilitate us in the processing of the harvest.
On the other hand, the existence of a rice-cutting machine makes the work of farm laborers reduced. So those who try their fate when the harvest season will lose their jobs and decrease their income. The most feared are the youths whose livelihoods of the peasants will diminish incomes, so in order to make ends meet, they will do very undesirable things like selling drugs or being thieves.
This is the dilemma we face farmers. Should we use machines for crop processing or using human labor?.
