The Background
I'm in the Software Business for 8 years right now and as everybody knows, software developers absolutely love coffee! I tried a lot of coffee shop in the last years, everywhere you get a coffee I have to try it! There are a few good ones out but the most are just bad. You know the troubles - no wifi/socket for my notebook (hello we are in 2018?), burned coffee, bad service and so on.
And so, a few years ago, my lifetime dream of an own coffee shop was created!
The Idea
If I just open a coffee shop I would face the same problem as every other coffee shop around. I would build my own idea of a coffee shop and not the nearly perfect one.
The idea grows to make a concept with a big community. Where everybody from every part of the world could bring in their own ideas. And I don't know a better community than Steemit! ;-)
Workflow
- We will focus on one topic each Post
- Comment on the post with your own opinion, don't forget a description why you think that would be perfect.
- I will read through every comment, try to merge them and write them down.
- In the next Post, I will summarize the result from the last.
- At the bottom of every post, I add the current full concept.
- If your idea managed to get into the final concept you will get a reward.
This workflow will change according to how much people participate. Maybe with a survey tool 😉

Size always matters
Some basic example questions:
- What's the perfect size for a coffee shop?
- How many seating possibilities should be available?
- Do we even need tables or will be coffee to go the future?

I would not cut my own market by offering only coffee-to-go. This may be economical under the appropriate conditions (little space, high rental or personnel prices). At least in Europe, I would not expect that the lifestyle of the future will exclusively allow for coffee-to-go. Basically, you need the right atmosphere and peace for the proper enjoyment. Nonetheless I would assume that offering coffee-to-go is a good idea in principle.
In order to be able to do both - reach as many 'to-go' consumers as possible and at the same time to allow the whiling coffee house visitors their peace of mind - perhaps a special form of the counter would be wise: L-shaped, like the one i always see in the Nordsee shops, with the short side inbuilt in the wall facing the streets.

Very nice coffee shop
It is indeed! I don’t believe coffee to -go is the future- in fact the opposite! With so many businesses and technology advancing, there are more non-stationary employees in this day and age than ever before! I am not required to sit at a desk from 9-5 myself, so I find myself at coffee shops all the time to catch some caffeine, WiFi and calming environment to work mobile. I do think, however, that coffee to go is a MUST for a successful coffee shop, as there are still millions of people needing to take their coffee to go on their way to work, rather than taking their work to go on their way to a coffee shop! The first points that cross my mind when I think of a successful coffee shop are as follows:
****** WiFi!!!!***** SO IMPORTANT
***** OUTLETS FOR POWER!!!***** line them up along every single wall!
**** Comfortable seating **** this can be table/chair combos, couches, general comfortable chairs with side tables
*** Good coffee *** This should be the most important, but let’s face it. Would anyone go to a coffee shop for excellent coffee and stay if there wasn’t WiFi, power, and comfy seating?
**Munchies ** We all know we can’t live on just coffee alone, even though we think we can
